Are you like me where the word “easy” catches your attention when looking for recipes? Well luckily, this recipe is just that! I love a good, meaty pasta sauce and this bolognese is not only easy to whip up on short notice, but it can also be turned into a slow cooker meal for even less work! I used zucchini noodles in this recipe, but you could just as easily swap them out for spaghetti or linguine noodles.
Easy Turkey Bolognese
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 small red onion diced
- 2 small carrots diced
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 2 tsp Italian herb blend
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/8 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 Tbsp sriracha optional
- 1 28-oz can organic tomato sauce
- 1 6-oz can organic tomato paste
- 1/2 cup chicken stock
- 3 - 6 medium zucchini
Heat your olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the onions, garlic and carrots and simmer for 3-4 minutes.
Add in your ground turkey, spices, and Sriracha if you're using it. Cook until turkey is just about cooked through.
Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste and chicken broth. Simmer on low for about 5 minutes.
While the sauce is simmering, use your spiralizer to cut up your zucchini.
Heat a second skillet with 1 Tbsp olive oil and add your zucchini spirals. You should not cook these for very long - just enough to warm them. If you leave them much longer, they will turn to mush.
Plate your dinner! Add your zucchini noodles and top with the turkey bolognese. Enjoy!
Add all sauce ingredients (except turkey and olive oil) to slow cooker and stir to combine.
Cut ground turkey into cubes, add to slow cooker, and cover with sauce. Do not stir.
Note: I also often cook up my turkey meat ahead of time and just add it to the crockpot, especially if I'm looking to have my meal ready sooner.
Cook on low for 6-8 hours.
Once the sauce is done, use a potato masher to break up the ground turkey into small chunks.
Spiralize your zucchini and follow the instructions above to finish your meal!
